5 Tips to Kicking-Ass in Marketing Your Business

Marketing is not a one-size-fits-all exercise, and if you do what you always have done, you are bound to fail. I coach startups and small businesses, and my biggest growth strategy is sales, that stems from kick-ass marketing, and too many of the business I work with don’t have a clue. Change your mindset, your marketing is not about you, I don’t care if you don’t like the direction, it is about your ideal client and what they like, and what is in it for them. It’s that simple.

This 5 min read will give you 5 pointers to remember in order to market your business successfully to your ideal client:

Build Quality Targeted Relationships.

The idea behind “relationships” have two sides, one – people you can do business with, and two – people who can introduce or influence people you want to do business with. You want to connect with those and form a relationship, and please remember relationships takes time, it is not an overnight thing. Once you feel you have some sort of rapport with your connections, explain to them what you do and the value you drive to your customers. Always remember to make it clear what is in it for them.

Define a kick-ass Plan for Your Marketing Strategies

Research and understanding –  before you create your strategy. Who is your ideal client?, What pain do you solve for them?, Why should they look at you?, What will make them look at you?, Why should they trust you? These are a few questions you need to answer before you start with outlining your campaign. Once you put all these puzzle pieces on the tale your marketing campaign should stare you right in the eyes, and if all that fails, call me, let’s chat about it and see if we can clarify it for you.

Fire your worst clients.

One, not all relationships are meant to be. Two, the energy to try and keep a “tool” happy is just not worth it. I do believe you should rather spend that extra energy on your best clients, they will love you and they will promote you. The biggest psychological advantage of firing clients is forces you to continuously replace deadbeat clients, continue to re-invent your marketing to negate marketing to those type of clients or personalities.  And negate bringing them on-board.

We are in an age of abundant resources

We are blessed to be in the time in history it is the easiest ever to market your business. Best part, you don’t need a budget to start with. With clever usage of what is available you target and reach hundreds if not millions of potential clients. LinkedIn, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Blogging, Vlogging, Groups, Affiliate, MLM, Networking Events, Meetups, shit the list can go on for days. If you don’t have budget, do it yourself, youtube how-to’s, read blogs. Educate yourself and use free tools when you start, then pay professionals to help you.

Give more than you ask.

A big one most miss in marketing is something we adopted from Gary V, “jab, jab, jab, hook”. What that refers to is give more than you ask. Give, Give, Give and Ask. Drive value, help them, and do it again. Now ask for the appointment or commitment. There is a social bias about giving, we subconsciously feel we need to give back, and with the right message the giving back is the sale you are looking for.

These are some of the most common things that can contribute in the success of your marketing. But remember that there is no definitive solution and strategy when it comes to marketing your business. Go with what you feel your client will love, show them value and what is in it for them. Drive that message and I’m sure your marketing will yield a ton more success and ultimately leads.
